Day 3 on Rations
So we are on to day 3 of rationing. Today was the first day that I was starting to feel a bit limited. It didn't last long, I got a bit of a cheat today. Silly to think, I have only been living on rations for 3 days. I can't imagine what it felt like to live on it for 10+ years.
Breakfast
Breakfast was porridge again. I followed my basic recipe for oatmeal. You can find it in the recipes. I am getting in to a nice routine in the morning with my tea and oatmeal. It is funny, I never ate breakfast regularly. It is a nice habit to start. Hopefully it is one I can keep up after this week is over.
Lunch
As you can see above I don't have a picture of lunch. I was silly and forgot to take a picture. I had a chance to have tea with some "officials". Really I was visiting a friend and they were kind enough to put out a wonderful spread of tea foods. So I indulged a little. I had sugar in my tea, a couple tarts and a cookie. I really wish I had taken a picture.
Dinner
I didn't get our dinner from a recipe. I just made it up from what we had left over. I had left over steamed cabbage and steamed green beans. I took a sausage out of it's casing and browned it. I chopped the cabbage and green beans then stir fried them together with the cabbage. It was a really simple, cheap dish, but it was really filling and good. I also served the cabbage with boiled Brussels sprouts and a half slice of the national loaf. We ate the bread as is, no butter or drippings.
